1.5.2 – November 8, 2024

Summary

We are excited to announce that version 1.5.2 of the GoodMaps app is now available for download in the app store! See below for the release details.

New Features

  • Added support for Dutch.
  • Added the ability to change your time format to 12 or 24 hour format.
  • Added ability to sort the directory by Closest Proximity or Alphabetically.
  • Improved the look and feel of the map labels.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed an issue where the app would not save settings between app sessions.
  • Restricted localization to the Map Tab so that the Directory and Menu tab do not localize the user when in use.
  • If you only gave the app permission to use location settings once, it will ask you again upon re-opening the app.
  • When you click on the Go To Platform on the Transit Sheet while in Explore All Buildings mode, you will be prompted to Check In to route to it.

1.5.0 – September 16, 2024

Summary

We are excited to announce that version 1.5.0 of the GoodMaps app is now available for download in the app store!

This release makes it easier to navigate to nearby GoodMaps buildings at supported locations. We’ve also introduced new customization options for tones and haptics, updated the app’s colors and fonts, added custom destination descriptions, and fixed numerous bugs. Full release notes are included below.

Many of these improvements are based on YOUR feedback. We value your input and are committed to continuous improvement. We encourage you to try out this new version and share your thoughts by completing the survey at the top of this email.

New Features

  • Added the ability to navigate between adjacent GoodMaps buildings through the new Buildings section on the Building sheet.
  • Added the ability to turn tones and haptics on or off.
  • Added the ability to switch directions between clock directions and “slight” directions.
  • Updated the app to use new fonts, colors, and illustrations matching the GoodMaps brand.
  • Updated the augmented reality arrows to be more visible.
  • Added support for destination descriptions.

Bug Fixes

  • Sounds will no longer play when clicking on the map tab and rating a route.
  • Updated the verbiage when rerouting to be less confusing.
  • Fixed scroll issues with the building and station sheet on Android.
  • Fixed a visual glitch with the about section on the station sheet.
  • Fixed an issue subscribing to push notifications on Android.
  • Fixed tutorial text being cut off on certain devices.
  • Fixed an issue when trying to end a route while rerouting.
  • Fixed a missing accessibility label on the Check In Screen.
  • Fixed an issue causing users in currently unsupported languages to have unexpected behavior.

1.4.0 – July 24, 2024

Summary

We are thrilled to announce the latest update to the GoodMaps: Indoor Navigation app. This update focuses on major user experience upgrades, including a guided “find your position” experience, simplified navigation instructions, haptic feedback, and a brand new tutorial!

With this update, users can now easily pinpoint their location on the map with improved guidance and accuracy. Additionally, we have revamped our directions feature to provide users with even simpler and more straightforward navigation that utilizes haptic feedback when coming up on a turn or veering off course.

To further assist our users, we have introduced a comprehensive, interactive tutorial. Whether you are a new or long-time user, this tutorial will help you make the most out of our app’s navigation features.

  • New tutorial experience to train users how to hold their phone and scan their location.
  • New “find your position” experience to aid users find their location in a mapped building.
  • New level transition experience to guide users through stairs, elevators, and escalators.
  • Added a building search bar to make finding your map easier.
  • Various front end updates to make the experience smoother.
  • Updated map colors.
  • TOS and PP have been translated into our supported languages.

Bug Fixes

  • Adjusted the angles in which camera view is triggered to allow users to hold their devices lower but still access our AR arrows to guide them on their route.
  • Android users can now correctly switch between buildings through the Exit Building option in the Menu tab.
  • Some miscellaneous visual improvements.

1.3.6 – June 21, 2024

Summary

This version brings new language support for French and Spanish, faster search for finding destinations, an improved map view for large facilities, enhanced haptics, tones, and graphics, adjustable voice speed for in-app directions, an engine upgrade for better performance and stability, an improved transit building sheet, additional bug fixes, and more.

New Features

  • Languages: The app now supports French and Spanish.
  • Search Updates: Increased forgiveness in the search function, allowing for more typos and synonyms (e.g., “lift” for “elevator”) to expedite finding your destination.
  • Map View: Improved default map view for larger facilities; default zoom adjusts based on map size.
  • Error Fixes: You will now receive a single error message to assist in fixing your route.
  • Transit Building Sheet Fixes: All devices can access the Transit Building Sheet information such as platform routing and schedules.
  • Haptics/Tones: Haptics and tones will play at the beginning of every route to let you know it is finding your location before giving you directions.
  • Updated Graphics: Refreshed graphics for the Find Your Position feature.
  • Voice Speed Setting: You can now adjust the speed of in-app directions.
  • Engine Upgrade: Under the hood upgrade to performance and stability.
  • Enhanced Regional Language Capabilities: Now offering granular support for regional language variants, allowing for a more tailored and accurate linguistic experience. For example, distinguishing between American English (enUS) and British English (enGB), ensuring consistent usage of region-specific expressions and idioms.
  • Improved Navigation Guidance: The app now provides more detailed instructions, clearly distinguishing between slight turns or veers and sharper turns.
  • Directory Search Upgrade: Enhanced directory search usability.
  • Step-Free Route Notification: Alerts for users seeking step-free routes with only staircases available.
  • Search Enhancements: Improved accessibility for users with mobile dexterity limitations.
  • Revised Service Alerts Page: Redesigned for clearer alert details and enhanced visibility.

Bug Fixes

  • Error Fixes: You will now receive a single error message to assist in fixing your route.
  • Transit Building Sheet Fixes: All devices can access the Transit Building Sheet information such as platform routing and schedules.
  • Route Start: Fixed an issue that would sometimes cause routes to not start.
  • Screen Reader Updates: Users can start a route in the Building Sheet Favorites and Recently Searched with fewer taps and swipes.
  • Directory Sorting: Destinations are sorted by proximity on the Directory screen once we have found your position.

1.3.2 – April 1, 2024

Summary

This version of the app includes improved announcements for doors, openings, and turnstiles; support for one-way routes; improved instructions for same-level steps and ramps; a redesigned transit schedule; improved short naming for floors; and additional bug fixes.

New Features

  • GoodMaps Outdoors: Our sister app GoodMaps Outdoors is now accessible through the Settings Menu.
  • App Feedback: You can give basic app feedback through our Settings Menu.
  • Station Updates: New station sheet layout for various transit users.

Bug Fixes

  • Announcement Updates: Doors, Openings, and Gate Turnstiles will be announced in the route directions.
  • In-App Transit Notifications: Users with push notifications turned off can still receive in-app transit notifications.

1.2.1 – February 19, 2024

Summary

This update includes new features like alerts to let GoodMaps access your camera to begin routing and a more prominent “Go” button to kickstart your journey. We’ve addressed various issues, such as a glitch with the Android back button and map flickering. Plus, several interface enhancements like smoother horizontal scrolling and refreshed styling make routing smoother than before. We have also added functional improvements, like the favorite button transitioning to “favorited” when selected. Check out our website and social media for updates on enhancements in future updates!

  • Camera Permissions Notice: Implemented a screen announcement to let users know the app requires camera permissions to begin navigating.
  • Clearer Start Route Button: Improved visibility for starting routes, emphasizing the “Go” button.
  • Building Loading Alert: Added a loading symbol while the app loads a building, preventing early attempts to find a position and potential crashes. You can now return to the Check-In screen if a building fails to load or takes too long.
  • Improved Label Layout: Improved how labels are shown to reduce overlap.

Bug Fixes

  • Android Back Button Fix: Addressed an issue with the Android “Back” button causing a blank screen.
  • Eliminated Map Flickering: Resolved flickering on map elements.
  • Enhanced Connection Announcements: Fixed issues where certain connections were incorrectly announced as doors.
  • Singular Augmented Reality (AR) Arrow: Fixed inaccurate map zooming during the first use of AR/Camera view.
  • Initial Zoom Correction: Fixed an issue hindering accurate map zooming during the first use of AR/Camera view.
  • Timing Announcement Enhancement: Fine-tuned timing for specific announcements following user feedback.
  • Resolved Camera Usage Issue: Ensured camera access is available upon the first app launch.
  • Improved Tutorial Access via More Menu: Addressed app crashing when accessing Tutorials from the More Menu.
  • Ramp Announcement Enhancement: Fixed an issue with ramp announcements that was preventing them from announcing as expected.
  • Resolved Support Link Issue: Implemented functionality for the support link in the menu to direct users to a functioning support webpage.
  • User Interface (UI) Fixes:
    • Recenter Button Alignment Enhancement: Vertically aligned the recenter button to the left side of the search bar.
    • Scroll Enhancements: Adjusted horizontal scrolling so that the left side crops at the phone edge for improved user experience.
    • Building Landing Screen Update: Refreshed styling on the building landing screen.
    • Search Cell Padding Enhancement: Adjusted padding of the search cell to 12px at the top and bottom for improved visual appeal.
    • Favorite Button Update: Enabled the favorite button to change to “favorited” when pressed.
    • Location Icon Adjustment: Fixed the location icon in the About section of the destinations page to prevent it from being cut off, ensuring it displays properly for proper visibility.
